Capri Theatre Conservation Appeal
Overview:
The Capri Theatre is an iconic South Australian venue which was added to the State Heritage list in 1991. Originally opened in 1941 as the Goodwood Star Theatre and later purchased by the Theatre Organ Society of Australia (TOSA) SA in 1978, it is an independent not-for-profit cinema run by a network of generous volunteers. TOSA SA have gradually renovated and restored much of the theatre to its 1941 Art-deco/Moderne style. It is looking resplendent, thanks to public support and a huge effort by TOSA SA volunteers. But there is more that needs to be done to complete the job.
Significance:
On 8 October 2021 the Capri Theatre will celebrate its 80th anniversary. COVID-19 has hit our bottom line hard and while TOSA SA is committed to keeping the theatre open for the community to enjoy, we need help to complete the renovation of the building interior. We are aiming to raise $30,000 to enable us to make the final touches.
